Social Innovation: Hydroponic (Food and Agriculture Issues)
The idea for the social innovation in regarding the food and agriculture theme is the used of hydroponic systems as the ways of growing vegetables. Although this technique of growing plants is commonly used and being practice, however in my area which is in my local community. The goals in this innovation is to encourage the use of hydroponic in growing vegetables, promote the 3R ways which is implemented during this social innovation and also to helps people with the lack of spaces in their housing area to be able to start growing their own vegetables or herbs.
The first in promoting this hydroponic systems is first I myself need to know how to setup this systems in order later to teach the villager about it. I will do the research and reading regarding this. Next I will sketch the setup of this hydroponic system. This is to ensure I can list out all the materials needed and also the total cost involve in making this hydroponic systems. My setup of this hydroponic systems will be 100% customizable and also use recycle materials that easily can get in their house. The cost of this hydroponic system also will be much cheaper compared to the hydroponic systems that already sell in the market. The rough sketch of my hydroponic systems as shown in the diagram below.
Next after done design the hydroponic systems, I will make a class on how to build and managing the hydroponic system to the villager. This is to make sure they can understand and know how to setup, operate and manage the hydroponic systems once they setup the systems. I also will used all the media social platform and the helps from the head of the community to spread the news about my class or workshop regarding this project.
After this class, when all the villager have try setup this systems at each of their houses, I will make a visit randomly around my village on the villager that using this hydroponic systems. This is to ensure, any problems that happen or occur can be recognize and the solutions can be find by discussing with the villager themselves. I also really hope that during this visit, I can learn more on how this hydroponic will work in real life in different ways of managing this systems.
I really hope that this proposal can be done in the future because this hydroponic systems not only limited for those who do not has soil in the residential area but also can be used if they have infertile soils or wanted to start growing their own vegetables but only renting the property.
