Social Innovation: Community Biofertilizer (Environmental Biotechnology Issues)
One of my idea regarding the environmental biotechnology issues is to setup or build a program called community biofertilizer project. This project will be involving all the members of my local community in my village. The main goals also to turn the organic kitchen waste produce by the each members of the community into something more beneficial product which is the biofertilizer. The first step to do this program is to create a team to organize this project. This team will directly handle all the activities involve in this project. There will be a few teams that doing a different task or job. I will discuss on this later.
Firstly, what I wanted to do is to propose this project to my villager community through the helps of head the community. Doing this will helps me to spread the information to all the community easily and quickly. Proposing this also helps my project to get permissions to be done in the village. Among the things that I wanted to discuss with the head of the community is where is the biofertilizer workshop will be located, how people can send their kitchen waste into the workshop, what are the benefits that the villager get, how long this project will be running, what should the villager do to contribute in this project, what is the total cost of this project and other aspects. During this discussion, I wanted to established a deep understanding for all the parties involve which is between me and my team, villagers and the head of community and its committee.
Next steps is after all the discussion, I would to appoint the member of the community to be part of the team which handling this project. The list of the job to be done for each team such as logistic which involve in collecting and transporting all the kitchen waste from each houses in my village to the biofertilizer workshop, second team is handle the workshop itself that needs to involve in the making of the biofertilizer, third teams is information team which helps in spreading the information of this program and also publishing the activities done through this project and other teams that will supporting this project.
From this project, there are two main benefits that the community can obtain from it which is first is can turn the organic kitchen waste into the beneficial products which is the biofertilizer. Second is the community can used the biofertilizer produce in this project for free and either for growing their own vegetables or other plants. The other side benefits that can be obtain from this project is if this biofertilizer for produce more than enough, they can turn this into a business where they can sell this biofertilizer in the markets. In my opinion this idea of social innovation should be implementing in all the rural community in Malaysia.
